Greetings

Why do we choose Montessori for our children?

Why do we choose Montessori for our children?

Yesterday, a Cycle 3 child came to see me about an idea he had. I quickly realised that this was a serious meeting when he pulled out his notes and Canva presentation to pitch his idea.  He had my full attention off the bat.

As I listened to him, I found myself marveling at the skills and capabilities he demonstrated - a perfect reflection of what we aim to cultivate at Montessori East, parallel to academic excellence.

Competencies beyond knowledge

We know that today’s children need a wide range of competencies beyond knowledge to navigate the world. Learning capabilities refer to the skills and qualities - such as independence, critical thinking and creativity - that equip children to adapt, engage and excel both in school and in real-world contexts.

No child's growth is going to be an even continuum - it will have its bumps along the way - and I hope that we can work through it together.

Allow it time to come together

For the boy I met yesterday, the “coming together” of his Montessori experience was clear—he is in the final stage of Cycle 3, and the depth of his learning and development is striking.

In the Montessori approach, there’s no one thing we do, or a programme to be implemented -  but a long and layered lived experience spanning KIN (0-3) plus nine years to the end of Cycle 3. We give time and priority to the whole child and see education as an aide to life.

Keep in mind why you chose Montessori East. And if you ever have questions, I encourage you to come along to the parent education evenings this year, or let’s have a conversation.
